ITP Spring Show at the Tisch School of the Arts

Debbie and I stopped in at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts yesterday evening to see what the students of the Interactive Telecommunications Program had concocted this past semester. This is a big show—a little overwhelming, frankly—with 139 different exhibits and, as you might imagine, the ingenuity, style, effort and execution varied widely... but because many of the pieces are indeed interactive, and all of the artists/inventors are hanging out and eager to explain their work (think: science fair), we had a ton of fun just goofing around and chatting and, yes, admiring some of the best creations.

If you're in the neighborhood tomorrow evening—721 Broadway, just south of Waverly—it's definitely worth a visit. And though it was pretty crowded, it'd be a fun thing to do with kids. Here's a few pictures to give you an idea of the kind of work on display.

The Red Carpet. The more skin you show, the more the "paparazzi's" flash bulbs pop...

"Little Bog Boy" virtual puppets. This was very cool...

The "gut listener", for when you really want to tune in to those weird gurgles and growls...

Mouth piano...

I'm not sure what this was about...

Making music—or, really, more like a high-pitched drone—with the power of scooters...

At the "Improve Posture and Pressure for Handwriting" station...

Eyelash switches, which in this case programmed a camera shutter, but the idea is that they could be used for many different applications by, for example, quadriplegics.

The ITP Spring Show is free, and will be up for one more night, Wednesday, May 9th, from 5:00 until 9:00. The address is 721 Broadway, between Waverly Place and Washington Street.
